I am going to go ahead here and refer to a term that is actually coined in a future "news" post which was posted before this one. (If that doesn't seem to make sense, read the last paragraph of the "news" post to the first strip.) To repeat the word and its definition:
Parachthonism—The erroneous association of an object or feature with a world to which it does not pertain; or an object or feature thus associated.
Yeah. The dialogue in this strip seems to involve a bit of a parachthonism here. They're referring to politicians as exist on present-day Earth, whereas they live in a fantasy world where such politicians and democratic elections presumably don't exist.
Although, on the other hand, why can't they exist there? When we think "fantasy", we generally tend to think of a medieval feudalistic government (or rather an inauthentic somewhat prettied-up pop culture version of medieval feudalism), but that certainly isn't required. Granted, we've had mention here of a nobleman, and next week we'll hear of an earl; later on we'll meet a princess and much later a king... so clearly this type of government does exist there. But that doesn't mean that every nation on the world has to have this form of government. Maybe there are some nations on the world of Soup—or there's at least one nation, anyway—that actually does have democratic elections, and that actually does have politicians running for office.
Sure. Let's go with that. That's my excuse.
