For what it's worth, the hero's answer to the question is actually correct, at least given a certain assumption regarding a matter left unspecified in the problem's conditions. That is, it's correct if one assumes that after the first day, the two riders start at the same time every day—which is reasonable, given that the second rider's late start on the first day is compensated for by his traveling less time, so that both riders to end their travels at the same time on the first day. Admittedly, while reasonable, it's not explicitly stated that the riders began at the same time on days after the first, but at least an excellent case could be made for his answer being the correct one.
Of course, this is rendered entirely irrelevant by the cultists' cheating. I mean, there are unspecified conditions, and then there are... that kind of unspecified conditions.
Still, I'd like to think this strip somewhat redeems the previous strip. Sure, I used the old chestnut of the word problem being thought of as something grueling and horrific... but at least the hero does actually answer it, so apparently it's not all that onerous after all. Or wouldn't be, if the cultists played fair.
Oh, by the way, if you're wondering what a "mardinore" is, it's... well, apparently some kind of monster. One may or may not appear in a future strip. I'm saying that not to be mysterious, but because I honestly don't know. I just needed a monster for this strip, and I made one up. Or at least, I made up a name for one.
