Soup the Comic Strip by Alun Clewe
Comic strip for August 28 2023.
PANEL ONE: Two adventurers, a man and a woman, stand in front of a door. MAN: Behind this door is the last room we have to traverse before we reach the one with the amulet. But in this hall lurks the dread Calthophacus, a horrible three-headed monster. PANEL TWO: Close on the man. MAN: They say that one of its heads breathes fire, another blasts icy wind, and the third shoots out a ray that magically changes all it contacts. PANEL THREE: The adventurers still stand in front of the door; the man's hand is on the doorknob. MAN: We'll have to slay this hideous beast to pass it and gain the amulet. PANEL FOUR: The two of them enter the room. In the foreground is the corpse of a three-headed creature, all three heads having been lopped off. PANEL FIVE: Close on the adventurers. WOMAN: Looks like something's already slain it. MAN: Hey, yeah, what a stroke of luck. PANEL SIX: The adventurers continue. WOMAN: Looks like it happened recently enough that whatever did it is probably still around. MAN: Okay, maybe it's a stroke of really _bad_ luck.

Oog. Another issue with these early strips is that there were some really crowded dialogue balloons, with the dialogue almost right up against the balloon borders. (This isn't a consequence of the altered font... as a matter of fact, the dialogue balloons were even more crowded originally.) This is another aspect in which I think I did improve somewhat over time; in the later strips the dialogue has a little more breathing room.
