Soup the Comic Strip by Alun Clewe
Comic strip for May 5 2024.
PANEL ONE: The champion and Maiz walk through an underground passage. The champion hands Maiz a torch. CHAMPION: Here, Maiz, maybe you should hold the torch. I may need both hands free to wield my sword if we run into any monsters or anything. MAIZ: Cool! PANEL TWO: Maiz looks down at the torch, smiling. CHAMPION: Uh...which part is “cool”—the you holding the torch part or the running into monsters part? MAIZ: Both! PANEL THREE: Back angle on the champion and Maiz. There is a shadow on the wall in front of them. CHAMPION: Uh, oh—there's something now. PANEL FOUR: Close on the champion. CHAMPION: Wait a minute— how is it between us and the light? PANEL FIVE: Maiz looks up at the champion. MAIZ: Uh, that was me. I was making shadow puppets. CHAMPION: MAIZ! PANEL SIX: The champion and Maiz walk across a stone bridge spanning a pool of bubbling yellow liquid. PANEL SEVEN: Maiz looks up at the champion. MAIZ: Wanna see if I can throw the torch up in the air and catch it without burning myself? CHAMPION: No, Maiz, I really do not want to see if you can throw the torch up in the air and catch it without burning yourself. PANEL EIGHT: The champion and Maiz walk behind a giant web. PANEL NINE: Maiz sprinkles something on the torch, the flame of which is burning violet. MAIZ: Hey, look! If I put some of this moss in the fire, it burns a cool purple color! PANEL TEN: Close on the champion. CHAMPION: Maiz! The torch is not a toy! PANEL ELEVEN: The champion puts his hand on his forehead. MAIZ: ANYTHING can be a toy if you use it right. CHAMPION: Missing...the...point...

You know what I'd really hoped to have done by now? Besides finished the backgrounds to that December 17 strip, and drawn a bunch of new strips? Had link banners done and actually started advertising Soup to try to attract some readers. You know what I haven't done by now? That's another thing I really want to try to get done soon, but I've been swamped with work the last few weeks. Which is good, from a financial standpoint; not so good from a free time standpoint. And while I do bring a laptop with me to work and occasionally have enough down time and enough of an internet connection to get things done on it, I don't of course have my drawing tablet with me, so even if I do get a chance to actually get something done on my creative projects while I'm at work, that something cannot include drawing. (Well, it can include drawing on paper, like concept sketches, but it can't involve drawing on the computer, which is how I draw Soup.) That's something I have to do at home, and I... just haven't had much time at home the last few weeks except to sleep.

Urfff. I'll get it done eventually. I just... don't know exactly when. Dagnabbit.
