Soup the Comic Strip by Alun Clewe
Comic strip for November 13 2023.
PANEL ONE: Erlak's champion sits across the table from a mustachioed adventurer, Trevalien. (He's the adventurer from the first strip.) CHAMPION: So you're Trevalien. So what did you want to see me about? TREVALIEN: Well, first perhaps I should give you some background... PANEL TWO: Close on Trevalien. TREVALIEN: Several months ago, I penetrated the lair of an evil imp creature, black as night in both heart and color. PANEL THREE: Close on Trevalien in profile. TREVALIEN: Bound to a pillar in an elaborately decorated room in the lair there I found a young boy, apparently about to be sacrificed by the fiend as part of some fell ceremony. Fortunately, I managed to rescue the lad before the demon's foul plans came to fruition. PANEL FOUR: Close on the champion. CHAMPION: So now you want me to find this evil creature and destroy it? PANEL FIVE: 3/4 front view on the champion, rear on Trevalien. TREVALIEN: What? No! I've already done that! I want you to look after the kid! CHAMPION: _What!?!?_ TREVALIEN: Well, I've been taking care of him for three months now; it's somebody else's turn!

One of the many deficiencies of my early strips was that the font size I used was often wildly inconsistent from strip to strip. This wasn't just because some strips had more dialogue and thus I had to make the font smaller to fit it all in. Maybe that was sometimes the case, but more often the font size just varied because... well, for really no good reason at all.

Unfortunately, since the dialogue balloons and panel layouts were kind of arranged around the text, I can't go back and fully standardize the font size after the fact... especially in those strips, like this one, for which I don't (currently) have the original Adobe Illustrator file and have only the exported bitmap. So the font size is still going to be somewhat inconsistent, but a bit less than it was. Anyway, once I get through all the strips from the comic's prior runs and get into brand new comics, I'll be more consistent with the font size.

I mention this here because this particular storyline had especially large discrepancies in the font size between strips, and because this particular strip is one that may have had a smaller font because of the amount of text—yeesh, this strip is wordy. Also, just because there wasn't really a better place to mention it, I guess.
